A-GUSTO-UTSAV’09




The students of St. Augustine’s Day School, Kolkata had organized an Inter School Extravaganza – A-GUSTO-UTSAV’09—on 12th and 14th of September 2009 at Mahajati Sadan. 11 well known schools from all corners of the city namely, Carmel High School; Sunrise (Eng Med) School; South Point High School; Loreto, Bowbazar; St. Thomas Boys School; St. Francis Xavier’s School; St. Sebastian’s School; Sri. R N Singh Memorial; St. Augustine’s Day School, Shyamnagar; St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore; participated in the fest.

A-GUSTO UTSAV’09 kicked off on the 12th of September with the off stage events in the school premises. A total of five Off-Stage events namely A-Gusto Cyber Grafix (Web Designing); A-Gusto Grafix (Power Point Presentation); A-Gusto Chipset (Collage); A-Gusto Cartooning; and A-Gusto Slogan Writing were held. St. Augustine’s Day School, Kolkata did not participate in the Off Stage events since they were the host school.

There were different topics given for all the Off-Stage events. The topics for the Web Designing were (i) www.bikes_of_future.com; (ii) www.ammunition.com; (iii) www.travel_tourism.com and (iv) www.cyber-vultures.com.

For A-Gusto Grafix (Power Point Presentation) the topics given were (i) Evolution of FIFA Gaming; (ii) Electronics and Tele Communication; (iii) Fire Sale; and (iv) Taste of India.

The topics for A-Gusto Chipset (Collage) were (i) Nature at its best; (ii) Purely India or Simply India; (iii) Power of Technology; and (iv) War in Peace.

The topics for A-Gusto Cartooning included (i) Michael Jackson, The Rock Star; (ii) IPL and We; (iii) Slumdog Millionaire; and (iv) Kolkata 2050.

There were 3 topics given for the A-Gusto Slogan Writing (i) Global Meltdown (Recession); (ii) Wild Life; and (iii) Technology. The participants were to select only one topic for all the event and do the needful.

The On-Stage events were held on 14th of September at Mahajati Sadan with the Inauguration Ceremony. The fest was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Bickram Ghosh, the famous Tabla Player. He encouraged the students and asked them to participate actively in different events. He asked the students to participate with great gusto and enthusiasm.

Then the first event of the day A-GUSTO-CROSSFIRE (Debate) began. A total of 11 schools (2 students from each school) participated in this event. The topic for the motion was “Celebrities Should Not Be Role Models”. The audience filled with encouraging students cheered each and every participant of the events. Dr. Kaushik Ghosh was the moderator of this event. The two judges Prof. Samantak Das and Prof. Sarbani Gooptu were thrilled to see the confident level of the students. According to them this event brings out the public speaking ability of the students and also helps them to discover new ideas.

A-GUSTO-JALTARANG (Musical Quiz) was the next event that followed. Nine (9) schools participated in this event. The quiz was conducted by Mr. Neil French (the School Quiz Club Incharge) and Mr. Richard Gasper. Several rounds including ‘Identify the Instruments’; ‘Name the Movies’ and etc were held. The questions asked by the quiz master were not very easy but still all the quizzers gave their best shot and impressed the audience with there answer. There were a few rounds for the audience also held. St. Augustine’s Barrackpore stood third while St. Thomas Boy’s School, Khidderpore stood second. St. Francis Xaviers School was the champion of this particular event.

The third On-Stage event of the fest was the A-GUSTO-FOOTLOOSE (Fusion Dance). All the eleven (11) schools participated in this event. The judges for this event were Mrs. Shruti Bandhopadhyay, Mr. Subhashish Bhattacharya and Mr. Jayanto Mukherjee. Each and every school gave their best shot. They performed excellently well making it difficult for the judges to select the best of the bests. The crowd not only enjoyed each and every performance but they themselves started dancing on the beat of the music.

A-GUSTO-SONIX (Western Band) was the next and final event that followed. Six schools participate in the event. The bands were judges by three eminent personality of the city namely, Mr. Pranab Bera, Mr. Arko Mukherjee, and Mr. Sourav Chatterjee. The students performed really well. The judges were thrilled to see the students performing on stage like professionals.

After A-Gusto Sonix, it was now time to present the Special Attraction of the fest. This was none other than the performance by the Cynical Recess of Kolkata. They performed excellently well making the crowd yell and shout their lungs out.

Finally, after all these performances it was time to announce the winners of the different events. The trophies & prizes for the Off-Stage events were given by the Guest of Honour, Ms. Agnimitra Paul (Fashion Designer. In A-Gusto Cyber Grafix (Web Designing), the 2nd Runners Up was St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore while St. Francis Xaviers’ School was the 1st Runners up. The Winner of this event was St. Thomas Boys School, Khidderpore. In A-Gusto Grafix (Power Point Presentation), St Francis Xaviers was declared the 2nd Runners Up while St. Sebastians School the 1st Runners Up. St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore got did enough to bag the 1st prize.

For the a-Gusto Chipset (Collage), Sri R. N. Singh Memorial School and South Point High School was declared the 2nd Runners Up and 1st Runners Up respectively while St. Sebastian’s School was declared the winner of this event. In A-Gusto Cartooning, Madhuparna Chowdhury (Loreto Day School, Bowbazar) and Sambhat Mondal (South Point High School) was named the 2nd Runners Up and 1st runners Up respectively while Akash Chowdhury (St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore) declared the winner in this event. In the last Off-Stage events, i.e., A-Gusto Slogans, Aishwarya Agarwal (South Pont High School) was declared the 2nd Runners Up while Arindam Baroi and Ram Mohan Dubey were being declared the 1st Runners Up and the winners respectively.

After the Off- Sag events, it was now time to give the prizes and trophies for the On-Stage events. The prizes and trophies for the On-Stage events were given away by Mrs. E Gasper. In A-Gusto Crossfire (Debate), the 2nd Runners Up was St. Augustine’s Day School, Shyamnagar while the 1st Runners Up was St. Augustine’s Kolkata. St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore was declared as the winner of A-GUSTO-CROSSFIRE. Also, in this event individual prizes were given to the best speakers. Sharib Tanvir (St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore) was judged the best speaker speaking for the motion while Souradeep Ray (St. Augustine’s Day School, Kolkata) was adjudged the best speaker speaking against the motion.

In A-Gusto Jaltarang (Musicial Quiz), St. Augustine’s Barrackpore was declared as 2nd Runners Up while St. Thomas Boy’s School, Khidderpore was declared as the 1st Runners Up. St. Francis Xavier’s proved that they knew everything related with music and so they were the deserving winner of A-Gusto Jaltarang. In A-Gusto Footloose (Fusion Dance), St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore went away with the title of the best school in footloose as they stood 1st while St. Augustine’s Day School, Kolkata and Sunrise English Medium School stood 2nd and 3rd respectively in it. In the last A-Gusto Sonix (Western Band), St. Sebastian’s School and St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore won the 3rd and the 2nd prize respectively. For the third time in a row St. Augustine’s Day School, Kolkata took home the title of Champion Band.

At last, the moment arrived when the name of the Champion School was to be declared. Everybody in the auditorium was tensed and kept their fingers crossed. Finally St Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore, was declared the Champion School of A-Gusto Utsav 2009 and was handed over the Champions Trophy by the Principal Mr. C R Gasper. The fest finally came to an end with Mr. J Hardy proposing the Vote Of Thanks. This fest will surely be remembered by all for quite a long time especially by the Class XII Students.
